Momentum

One score for how you're really doing, and it keeps growing with you.

Momentum is a single number from 0 to 100. It grows every time you show up and cools down gently when life gets in the way. Take a break and it eases down gently; come back and it climbs right back.

The idea

Streaks count days. Momentum counts everything you do.

A streak only knows whether today happened. Momentum measures everything you have done recently: completed habits, logged progress and finished goals all add to it, older progress gradually counts less, and staying active keeps the line up.

  • No inactivity penalty. Nothing is ever subtracted for a day you missed. Positive contributions simply expire.
  • Rewards action, not app-opening. You cannot keep a high score by opening the app and doing nothing.
  • Not a currency. There is nothing to spend and no XP to grind. It is a reading, like a pulse.

The formula

What earns Momentum, and how fast it fades.

Every action writes a small event with a value and a lifetime. Your score on any day is the sum of every event's value, scaled down linearly by how much of its lifetime has passed, capped at 100.

A daily cap on habits

Habit completions add at most +8 per day. Ticking twenty tiny habits doesn't beat finishing a goal.

Back-filling earns nothing

Checking off a past day fixes your history but adds no Momentum. The score measures what you are doing now.

Surplus is banked

The display stops at 100, the maths doesn't. A peak week leaves headroom, so the score doesn't collapse the moment old events expire.

Where you see it

On your Today screen, in a widget, and in an occasional nudge.

Momentum leads the Today screen and has its own widget. Tap it for a 7- or 30-day chart and a feed of exactly what moved it.

  • The Today card shows your score, level and change this week.
  • The detail screen lists every event that moved the score, day by day.
  • An evening nudge arrives only when Momentum is cooling: at most one a day, two a week.
  • The Momentum widget keeps the gauge on your home screen, free.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

What happens to Momentum after a week off?

It drifts down as older events fade, but nothing is subtracted and nothing resets. Come back, complete a habit, and you earn a comeback bonus on top of the habit itself. Most people are back in the "Steady" band within a few days.

Can I game the score?

Not usefully. Habit completions are capped at +8 a day, back-filled days earn nothing, and opening the app on its own earns nothing. The fastest way up is the intended one: finish a goal.

What is Momentum?

Momentum is a single 0–100 score of how you're really doing right now. Every completed habit, logged progress or finished goal adds to it, and each contribution fades out gradually over days or weeks. Nothing is ever subtracted for a missed day, so a break is a dip rather than a reset.

Does GoalGo have streaks?

Yes, every habit shows its current and longest streak, weeks in a row and a tappable month calendar. Streaks are there for information; your overall progress is measured by Momentum, which keeps growing with everything you do and never starts over from zero.
